Is your adviser SEBI registered?

Before you hand anyone your money or your trading account, check them against SEBI's registers of Investment Advisers, Research Analysts and Portfolio Managers.

What each registration lets them do

Investment Adviser

INA·········
  • Gives you personalised advice for a fee, under a written agreement.
  • Fee limit for individuals: ₹1.51 lakh a year per family, or up to 2.5% a year of the assets advised.
  • Cannot trade for you, hold your money, or guarantee returns.

Research Analyst

INH·········
  • Publishes research and recommendations.
  • Cannot manage your portfolio or trade on your behalf.
  • Cannot promise returns or take a share of your profits.

Portfolio Manager

INP·········
  • The only one allowed to manage your money and trade for you.
  • Minimum investment ₹50 lakh, a written agreement, and your holdings stay in an account in your name.
  • Anyone "managing" a smaller portfolio for you is not doing it under SEBI's rules.

Red flags — walk away if you see these

If something has gone wrong

  1. Stop paying and do not share any more login details or OTPs. Change your trading and email passwords.
  2. Keep everything: chats, payment receipts, call logs, the registration number they quoted.
  3. For a registered entity, file a complaint on SEBI SCORES.
  4. For fraud by anyone, call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.

This page searches a copy of SEBI's public registers taken on —. Registrations can be cancelled or suspended at any time, so always confirm on SEBI's website before you pay anyone. Being registered does not mean an adviser is good or that their advice suits you. NEOGreeks is an analytics and education platform, not a SEBI-registered adviser, and does not recommend any adviser listed here.
